Additional Care:
Acan Corals, commonly known as Acan Lords or Micromussa, are beautiful Large Polyp Stony (LPS) corals prized for their vibrant colours, fleshy polyps and intricate patterns. Available in a stunning variety of colour combinations, these corals form attractive colonies as new heads develop around the existing polyps. They thrive in stable reef aquariums with low to moderate lighting and gentle, indirect water movement.
Acan Corals generally prefer lower lighting conditions, as excessive light can cause their colours to fade or their delicate tissue to retract. Gradual light acclimation is recommended when introducing them to a new aquarium. Gentle to moderate flow allows their fleshy polyps to expand naturally while preventing detritus from accumulating between the heads.
Although Acan Corals obtain much of their energy through photosynthesis, they respond particularly well to occasional target feeding with small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or specialised LPS coral foods. Regular feeding may encourage faster growth, fuller polyp extension and the development of new heads.
Acan Corals can extend short feeding or sweeper tentacles, particularly at night, and may sting neighbouring corals. Adequate spacing should be provided to prevent aggression and tissue damage. Maintaining stable alkalinity, calcium and magnesium levels is essential for healthy skeletal growth, while avoiding sudden changes in lighting or water chemistry will help ensure long-term success.
